With her self-titled EP, indie, electro-pop singer/songwriter Tishmal (Rachel Brockbank) brings a strong and memorable debut solo release. The five-track EP is due to hit the airwaves January 24th.
Tishmal’s beautifully evocative and expressive voice is hauntingly spectacular and demonstrates a wide depth of range. Her vocals provide the main ingrediant which makes this record stand out. The material is fairly universal and anyone can relate to the songs. There is nothing necessarily groundbreaking going on, but the sentiments expressed feel heartfelt and genuine.

Lyrically, the EP exposes a push and pull happening in different directions within Tishmal’s relationships. This tension drives and transcends victimhood to find Tishmal coming out on the other side to discover a renewal in her personal strength that is empowering and self-affirming. “Underneath,” “Concrete” and “Connections” serve notice that this poetic Native American artist is a talent on the rise, and one to watch for.
Compared to critically acclaimed acts like Lana Del Rey, Florence And The Machine and Tove Lo, Tishmal is in great company and worthy of the praise and accolades coming her way. She is that good.
