Super Whatevr Premiere New Single “Telelelevision”
Pre-Order Debut Fell-Length
Never Nothing
Out 1/19 via Hopeless Records

Tour with Movements, Can’t Swim & Gleemer Kicks Off March

Super Whatevr has released a new song and video for “Telelelevision”, the fourth single off the upcoming full-length Never Nothing, out January 19th via Hopeless Records. Stream the song below:

The song takes on complicated themes about ones relationship with their inner-self, a common thread throughout Never Nothing.

“It’s about fighting what seemed to be a knee jerk urge to take my life,” McKee said. “Other people could tell me the type of person that I was but I wouldn’t hear it and certainly didn’t believe it.”

The project of Skyler McKee, Super Whatevr began as a vehicle for McKee’s poetry, when he started studying the craft of songwriting with the help of a friend and penning songs of his own. While the songs come from a dark place, they’re a reflection of a glimmer of hope amidst life’s struggles.

“All my songs are happy,” McKee explained. “The have a sad tone, but it’s all in a positive manner. I want to help people grow and be vulnerable. If it’s got to be dark, then it’s going to be dark. It doesn’t hurt me, because I know it’s going to help me grow and help other people grow.”

“Telelelevision” has been preceded by three singles: “Kathrin With A K”, “For You”, and “Bloomfield”. Super Whatevr’s previous EP Good Luck is available for download on iTunes and streaming on Apple Music or Spotify. Videos for the first three singles are available on the Hopeless Record’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/HopelessRecords.

Super Whatevr at the Roxy

The set at The Roxy on December 11, was probably under 40 minutes long, but Orange Country’s alternative band Super Whatevr managed to win over the audience and hold their attention with a quirky, offbeat sound and that disparate themes that focuses on an unusual range of topics, such as radiators to more serious subject matter like suicide, which just grab you and don’t let go. The singer and guitarist Skylar McKee, with his pitchy, off-kilter vocal style that’s oddly uncomfortable to listen, totally draws one in, is fascinating because of the earnest and passionate way he puts across a tune. His style is reminiscent of The Violent Femmes with that nervous, sort of neurotic, on-edge delivery.

McKee’s energy is a bundle of loose wiring sort of short circuiting on the stage in a way he cuts a disjointed figure before the crowd. A number of people in the audience were diehard Super Whatevr fans that came just to see their favorite band. Equally maniac and in constant motion, the rest of Super Whatevr provided steady, rock-solid support on guitars, bass and drums. The band is tight as can be and their driving, incessant energy and stamina match and keep up with McKee to present a show that is so strong and memorable it’s no wonder they garnered a coveted spot opening along with WILD on The Spill Canvas’ “No Really I’m Fine” 10-year anniversary tour. The Hopeless Records act is releasing its first full-length album, “Never Nothing,” in January 2019. Currently, they have a new single out with an accompanying video for “For You.” Let’s hope Super Whatevr get the opportunity, based on this great, but brief show, to mount their own tour and play a full set.

Canadian pop-punk band Coldfront was thrilled to share their new single “Float Around” last Thursday via idobi Radio. Fans can stream it now via YouTube, directly below.

“Float Around” by Coldfront:

“Float Around” is the title track from the band’s forthcoming album, which will be released on October 6, 2017. It marks the band’s debut full length on Equal Vision Records, and can be pre-ordered now at coldfront.merchnow.com.

On the new track, guitarist Chris Casarin shares: “‘ Float Around’ is one of my favourite tracks on our new record and I think it really captures the new direction Coldfront is heading in. This song started as something completely different – it was a fast and chaotic song at first but with a little studio magic we made it into something special. ‘Float Around’ is a song about a shitty break up and and trying to hold on to something that will never work.”

To date, Coldfront has released three EPs – Is This Where They Found You? (2016), Some Things Never Change (2014) and their self-titled debut (2013). “LA’s monthly Emo Nite hosted a 3-Day Pop Up Event at Urban Outfitters’ Space 15 Twenty over the weekend in celebration of the release of their clothing collection in Urban Outfitters stores across the country. The line consists of t-shirts, hats and a long sleeve tee. For a full list of stores that are currently carrying the Emo Nite x UO collaboration, see below. The weekend was home to musical performances, a yoga session, live podcast taping and the ever-present sense of community that is at every Emo Nite LA event. The 3-Day event kicked off Friday evening with DJ sets by Ham on Everything and Skins. Nearly the entire collection of clothing in the shop sold out and custom embroidery was available as well. The set up included an art installation showcasing all of the art created for Emo Nites over the past two and a half years as well as an ice sculpture of the graveboy logo. Guests were able to color the newest Emo Nite flyer for a chance to win #Earlyboy tickets to the July 11th event.
